Staff Product Manager

The Mission

Backlight Backlight is a global media technology company dedicated to improving the entire video content lifecycle, from creation to monetization. Our suite of SaaS solutions empowers creative teams at every stage of production.

We are hiring a visionary product leader with hands-on experience building and leading AI-based products to lead one of our most ambitious and strategic product pillars with company-wide impact. The product leader will bring clarity to the problem space and drive outcomes that shape Backlight's direction. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, has experience building for customers by working closely with design and user experience, and thrives when dealing with a high level of ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Define the problems we need to solve and make strategic bets for our search and AI capabilities over the next 6–18 months.

  • Own the customer experience and technical direction for agentic AI workflows.

  • Drive the strategy to make AI a core, monetized part of our offering.

  • Partner closely with engineering and design to shape backend architecture, ensure scalability, and create intuitive AI workflows.

  • Influence peer teams’ roadmaps, remove roadblocks, and use data and customer insights to refine our solutions and business models.

What success looks like in the first year

  • Establish a clear, data-backed strategic direction for agentic AI and search.

  • Define a scalable technical foundation for these workflows with engineering.

  • Develop a clear framework for analyzing AI experiments and embed AI across the product.

  • Demonstrate tangible customer adoption and monetization of AI features.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone sharp, who loves working with customers and design, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity.

  • Experience leading AI workflows, search technology, or agentic systems.

  • Solid understanding of backend systems and data platforms.

  • Proven ability to build consumer products with a strong emphasis on design.

  • Skill in influencing stakeholders at all levels, even without direct authority.

  • A track record of using data to solve complex problems.

Bonus points

  • Experience scaling Media Asset Management (MAM) or video platforms.
