Fullstack Developer (Frontend focused)

The Mission

Backlight is a global media technology company dedicated to improving the entire video content lifecycle, from creation to monetization. Our suite of SaaS solutions empowers creative teams at every stage of production and is trusted by video-forward organizations like Google, Ubisoft, the Atlanta Hawks, and Marvel.

We’re looking for an engineer who leads with the frontend but owns features end-to-end—from the interface down to the API layer. You’ll spend the vast majority of your time crafting fast, intuitive React applications, while also having the autonomy to write and extend the Python services that power them.
You’ll join a cross-functional product team alongside designers, PMs, and backend specialists, shaping the user experience while having the technical freedom to reach into the stack whenever your features need it.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain scalable, reliable frontend applications using React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript.

  • Design responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces that work beautifully across devices.

  • Write and extend backend services in Python when your features require it — building endpoints, updating data models, and connecting the dots between frontend and backend.

  • Collaborate closely with backend, product, and design teams to integrate APIs and bring features to life.

  • Help diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve real production issues across the stack.

  • Bring new ideas around tooling, frameworks, architecture, and ways of working — your creativity matters here.

Requirements

We believe great engineers can learn new tools as they go — what matters most is your ability and genuine drive to build great user experiences and collaborate well. In addition, we believe the right person has:

  • 3+ years of experience building and shipping scalable web applications.

  • Strong command of React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript patterns.

  • Comfortable working across the stack, including REST APIs, Git workflows, and light backend development in Python or a similar language.

  • Experience writing clean, structured, testable, and maintainable code.

  • Strong communication skills — you collaborate openly and value teamwork.

  • Knowledge of CSS frameworks and modern styling approaches.

Bonus points

  • Experience building SaaS products, mentoring peers or Scrum facilitation.
