Senior Manager - Financial Analysis
The Mission
Backlight builds the tools that power modern media operations, from production and asset management to broadcast and streaming. Our products are used at scale across the media industry to move and monetize content.
As Sr. Manager of Financial Analysis, you'll own the financial models that drive Backlight's business decisions — shaping how leadership thinks about growth, retention, and profitability in a PE-backed SaaS environment.
Responsibilities
Build and maintain the financial operating models that support annual planning, budgeting, and rolling forecasts across the business.
Lead monthly performance reviews, including variance analysis of revenue, bookings, and cost drivers. Translate the numbers into clear explanations of what changed and why.
Own core SaaS metrics reporting for management and the board: ARR, MRR, bookings, churn, GRR, NRR, and cohort performance.
Model revenue and retention scenarios. Forecast how customer behavior, pricing changes, and expansion motions affect the business over time.
Partner with cross-functional teams during planning cycles. You'll be the finance counterpart to product, sales, and customer success leaders.
Build scenario models and business cases for strategic investments. Support leadership in evaluating new initiatives and resource allocation decisions.
Improve how we work: identify automation opportunities, strengthen data quality, and scale our processes as the business grows.
Work across multiple data sources to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting. You'll need to reconcile systems and flag discrepancies before they reach leadership.
Mentor junior team members on modeling and analytical best practices when needed.
Requirements
You have
5+ years in FP&A, Strategic Finance, or a similar finance role. SaaS experience strongly preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Advanced Excel skills. You build models from scratch, not just update templates.
Comfort working with messy, multi-source datasets. You know how to validate data and build systems others can trust.
Strong communication skills. You present complex analysis to executives in a way that drives decisions, not confusion.
High attention to detail and a natural problem-solving mindset.
Bonus points
Experience at a PE-backed or high-growth SaaS company.
Familiarity with financial systems like NetSuite, Adaptive Insights, or similar planning tools.
SQL or other data querying skills.
Prior exposure to subscription revenue models and cohort-based retention analysis.
